Ribeiroia ondatrae
It’s a teratogenic parasitic worm with a creepy reproductive cycle: As larva is attached to a random part of tadpoles’ bodies, and intervening with frog’s DNA causes severe limb malformations during transformation phases, with development of additional and dysfunctional limbs. So the adult frogs may have 2-3 more and dysfunctional limbs, causing them serious mobility problems. So they become easy prey to predators like storks and herons, In their digestive system the larva transforms itself to perfect worm where it lay eggs that are released to water through birds droppings and the circle goes on. The abundance of Ribeiroia ondatre has been found to increase in eutrophic (nutrient rich) waters.
